Tom Macconnell
I graduated from The Art Insititute of Pittsburgh with a Bacholors of Science in Photography. After school I stepped into the photo assistants ring to continue to learn my craft while being able to make a living doing only photogrpahy related jobs.
Currently I work as a commercial photographer in Pittsburgh PA in the food and beverage space. I am lucky to work with some incredible clients such as Nestle Minors, Premier Protein, Dymatize Protein, PPG Paints. Nature Sweet, Fifth Season, McCain Foods, The Warhol Museum,Eat N Park, Hello Bistro, and Amy’s Foods. Never really thought I would be fortunate enough to have worked with so many great clients.
I balanced my day job with personal creative work, like moto gear photo shoots and photographing local and national motorcycle races, which garnerered the attention of a few publishers. Eventually I was able to have my work published in multiple motorcycle culture magazines. This allowed me to work on other cool projects, from emerging brands to current events.
My creative approach—no matter the medium—is to find points of tension behind the idea I’ve been assigned or am interested in. My goal is to make a photos with all the drama of action sports. I want the view to feel the action as if they are right there.
For me, drama isnt about dark and moody, but rather, a way to intruige your audience. It’s a way to plant a little bit of desire in their hearts; a yearning to turn the page and learn more about your idea. Ultimately, it’s about creating memorable images.
